Mercies Anew holds one of the most quoted promises in scripture — but reads it in the context it was written: a book of lament. These words come from Jeremiah in the aftermath of grief and ruin, not from a place of ease. The mercies are new every morning precisely because the night before needed them.

As the eye moves upward, the waves begin to ease — loosening, lightening, settling into gentler forms as they approach the horizon. At the top, a sun rises over the water in clean, open lines, the most still and spacious part of the whole composition.
